The extended background more things you either wanted to know or didn't:
Hello my name is Thime (theee-a-meh) Giles, but please just call me Thime. I was born in London November 18, 1810. And I was pretty much raised by both parents until I was 8, my mother died from illness. So my father whisked us off to Egypt to expedition to look through pyramids. My father was an archeology genius and so this expedition was an invitation from one of his old college buddies. Of course pyramids and a hot endless deserts is no place for an 8 year old that is used to English life.
Just because I was on this expedition didn’t mean I got to get away from schooling, quite to the contrary my father per say home schooled me, at the time Egypt was no home of mine. I even helped the old bloke digging in the dank dark pyramid that had a blocked entrance from flooding. But that’s the boring stuff, the question in your mind how did this English gentlemen living in Egypt become a vampire. Well here’s your story.
I followed in my father’s footsteps and became an archeologist. I had absolutely fallen love with Egypt over the year and the other desert Arabic countries around. I did most of my research in Egypt; I even had a small flat in Cairo. In the summer of 1830 I was all a twitter I found some old papyrus in the basement of a library. It was almost as a treasure map. I spent days just looking at it trying to decipher the hieroglyphs. I soon discovered where it was going to lead me. So stupidly I went on camel to find my Holy Grail. I wasn’t really looking for the Holy Grail it’s just a figure of speech, for those who take thing so literal. I thought that it was my moment to shine this would be my discovery. So I followed my map that I had made from the ancient information given to me on that papyrus scroll. I found it strange that it was leading me east rather then west of the Nile. Usually pyramids are the west of the Nile where the sun sets the death end of the day bla bla bla. The East should have raised the little red flag in my head but I wanted to prove my worth to the world so I went on the quest anyhow. I spent a month out in the desert searching for my holy grail, finding several oases on the way, saving my camel and I from dehydration. I had been saved from the sun with some ingénues local wear. I still looked as though I had spent the whole month in a musty old library.
Then I found my holy land, my Garden of Eden, my X, my discovery of discoveries. I had just about given up hope on finding when I referred back to my scroll that was written in Ancient Egyptian. I was on the spot it was supposed to be but the scroll said to be there at sunrise. Of course there must be something that is triggered by the sun to show the rest of the way. My map was incomplete and that is why I hadn’t found it yet. So with my excitement I waited the rest of the night until the red sun rose, and this would be the part a TV network would put the commercial, anyhow I looked the west. For whatever I was looking for needed to shine on and if you know anything about the sun whatever it was supposed to hit had to be sitting in the west. There was a mountain range. The sun reached them and then a sudden green glint and green mist leaking out on the top as green clouds. Again this should have risen the red flag to wait and think about what I was doing but I was so excited that perhaps I found what I had been questing for (To tell the truth I didn’t know what X was that marked the spot but I was determined to find out) and I took my camel to the top of the one peak where this green gas was erupting from. I got there in the late afternoon, the gas was gone but it stayed long enough to signal me where to go. I arrived at a cave entrance at the very peak. My camel let me know that she didn’t approve being close to this cave. You know how animals can sense evil. Anyhow I won’t get into that well, not right now I’m telling you my story and let’s not get off track we are almost to the climax. I ignored her neighing and stepped closer to the mouth. On the cave wall on the mouth there was hieroglyphs. I was a tad surprised that there where in such good condition. For the hieroglyphs I had found as a boy where not in the best of condition. Back on track now, I realized that it was just a bit dark further down into the cave, so I went back to my camel before preceding any further. As my father always said it’s no fun being lost in the inkwell maze. I got a torch and lit it fairly easily. As a child I played fire often to light the torches, so I became very fast at lighting them. I tied my camel to a rock so even if she didn’t like the evil sprits within she wouldn’t run away from me. And then headstrong I trudge into the cave. Hieroglyphs where all about me telling ancient tales evil curses and warnings. But as a child in a candy store I wildly looked upon them without actually taking heed on what secrets it might tell me. I figured I would have plenty of time to translate them later, but never hold what you could do today to tomorrow do as it comes, has been my new motto since this particular time in my life. I reached a fork in the cave, I thought now would be the time to read the warning label for one could probably lead me to danger if I went the wrong way. So I began to translate.
It merely said to go west leads to the tomb of the dead and the go to east leads to fire of life. Yeah so, that’s kind of true according to any Egyptian story. Well any archeologist in my position would love to find a nice dry mummy to add to their rap sheet for finding such a discovery would most certainly bring you fame and fortune. So I went west, but it twas not a mummy I found at the end of the tunnel. Anyhow I went west all the way to the bottom of the cave, it went for miles downward I was sure I was below even the surface of the foothills of the mountain. I was sure that if it wasn’t for my torch I wouldn’t even be able to see past my own eyelashes. In fact when I had reached the very bottom cavern a strong wind blew past me and blew my torch out. I heard a scuffing of the limestone floor, and I knew it was not my feet that created the noise. And then I had a feeling I was in danger when I smelled ancient. It was my childhood nightmare come true the the mummy is aaaaaalive. So I yell this and begin to bolt for the cave entrance, except it was like I was dipped in inkwell and let loose in a starless universe. I couldn’t seem to find a wall or anything and then I tripped on a stone. This was it I was going to be mummy food, and It’s going to reek havoc on the world with the present world knowledge it gets from my flesh. Of course I was naive back then. And then unceremoniously the back of my tunic is pulled and me along with it. I was no longer touching the ground. And I was bleeding from my forehead. I heard it sniffing me. And then it licked my forehead where I had been bleeding. Of course what I would say next most definitely show how immature I was ewww I’ve been licked by a mummy I believe that it is what I said. Of course it crossed my mind that if this thing is from ancient time then it probably won’t understand English. But before I said anything else in English or Ancient Egyptian it spoke to me. Of course I’ll translate for you for not all are as gifted as I in Ancient Egyptian. He said, I’ve been watching you, you got past all my obstacles without even being phased, and you are truly worthy of the gift. Of course it was just my dumb luck and I didn’t realize at all my life was in danger the entire time I was going through the cave’s tunnels.
And then the thing bit into my neck and proceeded to suck my blood. I said in Egyptian Are you trying to kill me? He didn’t answer, but in fact the next moment I found myself lie flat on my back wind knocked out of me and he’s still sucking on my neck. And then I felt the ecstasy of his bite. I felt my eyelids begin to close. Though it was so dark you wouldn’t be able to tell anyways. He then let go and said to me that it was time. And then a slight wind went past my face; I believe it was a motion of him cutting his wrist with a dagger. And then the ancient blood penetrated my lips. And then all life ceased. I felt sharp pains in my chest, my mortal life dieing at the tender age of 20. My old life was at an end and my new life was about to begin. I opened my eyes once again. It must have been hours since I had died, I was in a golden room lying on a golden slab. There were torches all about me. I sat up stiffly, I was hungry too hungry. Of course I thought I was hungry for food, which was quite to the contrary my body, could only feed on blood now. But again I was naïve at the time. There was a basket of fruit on one of the tables about. I was so hungry I didn’t care I got up and plucked an orange from the basket. I peeled it back and took a bite. And then I began to spew ash. That wasn’t my idea of getting the proper nutrition.
And then I heard a most sinister laugh that echoed off the precious gold walls. I wiped around looking for the voice that came from everywhere. Whose there? I asked, and then I remembered perhaps it’s the mummy so I asked in ancient Egyptian and I got my answer. The deep was the same from before. I translate again if you don’t mind too much He said I am the philosopher’s stone, I have given you the elixir of eternal life. I am a vampire and so are you my childer. Of course being a man of science I believed that vampires where impossible being and then I remember when I thought the guy was a walking mummy and that’s impossible too right. Anyhow after my headache and fight with myself for a few moments he continued. My name is Haqium, well if he was going to introduce himself so was I, so I said to him Pleasure to meet you I’m Thime Giles, and offered my hand in the proper British manner he just eyed my hand quite perplexed. And then I sheepishly put my hand down. Well then he just laughed at me, apparently he was very amused by my behavior. Later he brought me per say offerings to feed on, he taught me the art of feeding on human flesh. Over the next year I didn’t leave those tunnel not even to see the light of the moon. Being with my sire I became much more fluent in Ancient Egyptian, because he did not understand English nor did he care to learn, especially from his childer.
The anniversary of I becoming a vampire I walked outside for the first time almost choked by the fresh air. Then it hit me, my camel I left her tied up for a year, and I went to where I had left her. She wasn’t tied up the rope had been gnawed through. When I was out of the tunnels I slightly shielded my eyes for I had not been any direct light if be sun or moon for a year. I looked across the dunes, and then I saw her napping at an oasis. And all I could think at the moment was man my rental fee would be extraordinary for that camel when and if I ever got back to Cairo. I think back then I still wasn’t convinced that I was a vampire. So with this in mind I went back inside and left my sire a note in ancient Egyptian and merely stated, unfinished business that needs to be taken care of be back soon. Keep in mind that I was the only being that I was the only being in thousands of years that he had attached himself to, so he was not so happy to find that I had left.
I was about to learn my next hard and very painful lesson. I took the camel to take is back to Cairo. But I first rode it to Cairo. I took the camel and rode it for several miles during the first night and the dawn came, and still oblivious to the rules of being a vampire. My face and hands began to smolder, I fell off the camel, trying to get away from the sun. The camel was smart though and began to kick sand at me to attempt to bury me away from the sun. Except I kept moving to try and get away from the terrible light, and then it hit me the animal’s hoof right in my forehead. It stunned me for a moment and it put the sand over my head. Then I got it through my head I laid still as the camel buried me. Bt then it did almost an uncomfortable but very sweet, it laid down on where it buried me to protect me from any other sun that might try and creep through. Quite startled and learning from you mistakes taken to a new level I fell asleep. I awoke that night with a camel licking my face. I got up and dusted all the sand off me, and I felt my face is was ashy from the burns I had received from the sun. I told the camel when morning comes remind me okay, it moved its head up and down as if it understood me. I sluggishly got on the camel and it knew its way to Cairo I just kind of a bag of flesh on top along for the ride. When we arrived the place where I had rented her was ash, burned to the ground. My skin had healed by the way when we had reached Cairo. Suddenly I hear yelling in English, it was almost foreign to me now, I turn to look and it was Ashkema my old college buddy. I graduated at a young age by the way. He runs up to me and pulls down off the camel and I get a face full of sand. I wiped around and spit out the sand and then I grabbed his legs and pulled him to my level. We looked each other in the eyes and just embraced, embraced in a hug not biting, boy this little vampire world has certainly changed the meaning of some words.
Anyhow he began to talk to me in English, I hadn’t heard in English word spoken sense I was embraced so it was foreign to me at first. I was out of practice I suppose. But the first words out of my mouth were in ancient Egyptian. But he soon fixed that making me spill what I had been up to. Of course I told everything except becoming a vampire. He was fascinated that I found a cave that could possible be a tomb. But I told him to protect my sire that there was an earthquake and it ruined the whole mountain everything was rumble and if there was anything worth finding it was destroyed now. He was slightly disappointed that I couldn’t take him for a dig. It was getting close to dawn so I went to bed, of course he thought nothing of it he thought I was tired from my journey. Well it was almost if I were able to get into my old life, just not during the day, except if I fell asleep in the basement of the library, which I did on occasion so none of my mortal friends would suspect anything. It had been six months since I had left my sire and he began to worry were I had gone and what I doing for I did not know enough to be to big of a threat in the vampire world so he sought me out.
I had fallen asleep in the library and that night he found me there. It was early evening when he had pulled my head out of a book. He asked me in ancient Egyptian where I had been. My friend Ashkema had been my study buddy for today and he saw Haquim come and how he spoke to me, he knew something was up so he approached Haquim. With quick movement my friend had been decapitated before my very eyes. All I could do now was lower my head as a blood tear came down my cheek. I wiped my face and saw the blood on my hand, now was the time to freak out. What have you done to me? I asked Haqium in fear and anger. He just laughed at me. I ran from him people in the street made way as I ran past with blood down my face they stared in wonder.
There was a ship loading a shipment I jumped inside one of the creates to hide from Haqium. Without realizing it I was loaded in the shipment headed for Paris. I fell asleep in the create when I awoke the next night I realized I was on a ship, in the hull. I got out of the create to stretch. A rat hit my foot, I looked down and it looked up me with terror. I picked the little thing up and stroked its head. I was low on blood and without realizing what I was doing I bit into the rat and drake it’s blood licking it’s wound closed and then tossed it aside for a crewmen to clean up later. This is the way I lived for two weeks before reaching the coast of France where the create I was in was unloaded. I left the create unnoticed by crewmembers and left to explore France a country that I have not yet explored. It reminded me from when I was a small boy in Britain. I probably smelled horrible looked disgusting and unfashionable and had blood on my face and clothes. But I went to a hotel near by the docks. I was able to get a room with a payment of a small gold figurine of Horus. If course the first thing I did was take a bath; It was like I washed all the sands of Egypt of my body. Next thing to do was to get new clothes, but I wasn’t quite sure about how to go about doing that without any money. So I went to clerk that let me in with just giving him a statue. I offered him a gold bracelet and he bought it off of me for quite a nice price.
Walking out of the hotel I ran into a man with long black hair that went to the pit of his knee and black eye that reflected the color purple and he wore on long dangling earring with a crescent moon at the end. He was carrying several spools of fabric which all fell when I ran into him. I couldn’t seem to apologize enough for my clumsiness helping him pick up the spools. He looked up at me and placed his long fingers on my lips. He merely said, it’s all right young one it’s nothing to get excited about. But I would like you to come with me; he was looking at my clothes. We walked back into the hotel and he took me to the room he was staying in. I felt like child in his presence I only went up to his armpit. He set the spools down on the bed and took a tape measure out of his trunk and began to measure me and as he did so he said, I was wondering what I was going to use this fabric on and you sir have given me inspiration. I had to ask Who are you? He said My name is D’artainion Notre Dame Paris. Notre Dame Paris isn’t that a church in Paris, so it was on my mind and I asked it. I was orphaned as a child and the church took me in and no one knew my parents of what my name might be so they named me and since the church was my new father I was given the church’s name. I felt sorry for him but it didn’t seem to bother him any. We got into talking as he sowed away he was very quick with needle and thread and cutting. And for some reason I felt compelled to tell him everything that happened to me in Egypt. Even me being a vampire but he didn’t seem to care much or was very surprised. He merely said, Haqium huh so your from his clan. I am from the vampire clan Lasombra, though I am not as blessed as you to be bitten by the Antrevulian of my clan. But I also have turned my back on my clan and joined Camailla. Of course I was confused. He told me everything about it and I was eager to join. D’artainion and I became fast friends; he made me a robe that was quite elegant but hardly European. But hey it’s okay to be different. We kept in contact through the years by writing letters. Having set up a vacation for the two of us to meet. Well the rest of my time up till now wasn’t to eventful but with my new friend it made it easier he taught me the thing my sire wasn’t able to teach me and I kept investigating ruins and ancient scrolls. I even had enough courage to go to Cairo. And recently D’artainion and I have been keeping contact through e-mail. He wrote me recently saying that his new wife was creating trouble and he was going to go to New York for a couple of days to blow of steam and he wanted me to meet him there so we catch up and a possibility a job opportunity. So I’ll be taking off now they just called my section, oh by the way it was just a dream. ::you suddenly open your eyes to a stewardess shaking slightly:: Wake up sir we have arrived in New York.
